The purpose of this paper is to examine settings for the Open Innovation Arena. More particularly, the paper examines the ways in which a firm can generate the necessary conditions to harness outside performers' knowledge at the crossing point between the firm's boundary and that of the outside world. This process consists of creating a physical location to encourage collaboration and allow the firm to use accessible information remotely and in a compelling manner. Such physical locations imply Open Innovation Arenas, a subject that has not been addressed in many studies by researchers and scholars. This paper incorporates open innovation literature, which examines current standings on factors considered to impact firm's capacity to embrace and practice open innovation, namely conditions, resources and processes. The work also presents the results of a survey conducted among 25 researchers from INESC TEC, The Portuguese Institute for Systems and Computer Engineering, Technology, and Science. The study concludes what conditions are the main drivers, with culture constituting one of the most important factors to achieve open innovation.
